Genre is the category of story.
It tells the reader what kind of story it is.

You can watch my videos about genre 1.0 here and genre 2.0 here.

To help us further understand genre, I've made a list of books that fall into the major genre categories for children's books. This is by no means an exhaustive list (which means there are other genres out there) but it focuses on the most common ones.

If you want to get a better feel for a particular genre (especially if you're thinking about writing a story in that genre) then I highly recommend you check out the books on these list. Reading them will help you get a better feel for the "vibes" that each genre offers.
